The seminar was promoted as: ‘By the Groundsman For the Groundsman’ and it certainly lived up to its name. There were presentations from both ends of the scale with a ‘Grass Roots’ local groundsman talking about the problems facing a small village club, ‘First Class’ groundsmen talking about the maintenance, logistics and cost of putting on county cricket matches at outground venues and their roles
in general.
The seminar was attended by over 120 grounds professionals from cricket clubs, local authorities and contractors. Delegates came from far and wide, from 11 different counties. During the day there was a practical demonstration, on the county square, of deep spiking, introduced by Keith Exton Head Groundsman at Glamorgan Cricket Club.
George Tight of Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club saw the seminar as a great networking opportunity. “I’ve found the day to be very informative. I’ve been able to talk to a variety of Groundsmen and suppliers enabling a wide coverage of requirements in one day.”
Rob Palmer from Kings College School, Cambridge also found the day enjoyable. “It’s been great to get some in depth analysis from the experts. I’ve found it very worthwhile and hope to come again.”
